“In thy presence is fulness of joy.” Ps XVI.II
Maria Elizabeth Copland (née Hudson) (1859 – 21 January 1940)
Maria was born in Pentney, Norfolk – a small village halfway between King’s Lynn and Swaffham and baptised there on 3 July 1959. She was the daughter of Robert and Mary Ann (née Parlett) and her father was a hawker, shoemaker and eventually a farmer. In 1891 31 year old Maria was living with her parents at Chalk Farm in Narborough, near Swaffham. She married printer/compositor Walter John Copland (1857-1934) later that year.
In 1901 the couple were living at Lichfield Terrace in Swaffham, but by 1911was back living with her parents and acting as their housekeeper. Walter died in Fakenham in 1934, and it has not be possible to find Maria on the 1939 records. She died aged 81 at Richmond Manse, Tarporley in Cheshire and was buried in Cambridge to be near to her brother Lewis.
