Relationship: Brothers
Edmund and Frederick were the sons of Rev. Dr. Robert Towerson Cory (1759-1835) and Ann (née Apthorp). Robert was Master of Emmanuel College from 1797 until his death at Emmanuel Lodge in April 1835. Ann was the third daughter of Rev. Dr. Apthorpe, Prebendary of Finsbury and the couple married at St. Andrew the Great church in 1798. They had at least seven children.
Rev. Edmund Cory (1807 – 25 November 1850)
Edmund was born in Emmanuel Lodge, the third son of Robert and Ann Cory and went to Shrewsbury School. He was admitted to Peterhouse College in March 1826, awarded a B.A. in 1830, and an M.A. in 1833. He served as Precentor of Peterborough Cathedral from 1831-1850; a precentor is involved with the oversight, planning and direction of a Cathedral’s daily worship. He was also curate of Yaxley and curate of Farcet (1846-1849). He died at Regent Street, Cambridge aged 43 years old.
Frederick Cory (1805 – 30 January 1856)
Frederick was the second son of Robert and Ann and was baptised at St. Andrew the Great on 13 November 1806. He also appears to have attended Shrewsbury School and was articled to solicitor Charles Browne in Shrewsbury in August 1826. He returned to Cambridge to practise as a solicitor and had offices at 2 Regent Terrace, Parker’s Piece. In June 1830 he was elected clerk to the trustees of Hobson’s charity. Frederick lived at Bridge Street (1841) and 29 Green Street (1851). He died at Green Street aged 50 years old.
