Albert John Craske (1880 – 18 April 1934)
Albert was the son of Walter and Elizabeth Craske and grew up on Doric Street in Cambridge. His father was a labourer, who later became a railway porter. Albert married Laura Mynott in Royston in late 1900 when he was 20 years old. In the census of 1901 he was away working in Hengrave in Suffolk, and working as a builders labourer.
Albert and Laura had at least nine children: Bessie Florence (1903-1983), James Walter (1905-1995), Ellen Matilda (1908-1985), Alice Muriel (1910-2003), Clara (1914-1990), Albert Percy (1915-1989), Bernard Papworth (1917-2006) and a further two children who died in infancy. The family were living in Ainsworth Street in 1905 and at 66 Cambridge Place in 1911. By 1911 Albert was working as a house painter. He enlisted to fight in the 1st World War on 30th April 1915 and was a Private in the 4/1st Cambridgeshire Regiment. He was invalided out in August 1916 due to sickness, and was later awarded the Silver War Badge. His records show that he did not serve overseas during his service.
By at least 1920 Albert and Laura were living at 9 & 10 George IVth Street in Cambridge, he was still living there in 1934 when he died aged 53 years old.
Laura Craske (née Mynott)(5 November 1880 – 22 November 1949)
Laura was born in Horseheath just outside Cambridge. Her parents were Walter and Ann Mynott, and Walter worked as an agricultural labourer. Just after her marriage, when Albert was working away from home she was back living with her parents in Thriplow (1901).
She was widowed aged 53 years old and continued to live at 9 & 10 George IVth Street with her children. She died there in 1949 aged 69 years old.
