Monument
This headstone is hidden under a large yew tree 2 rows east of the central path in the parish of Mary the Great. The carved inscription is still legible but we were not able to check all of it.

Robert Curtis (1803 – 1 September 1866)
Robert was born in Fulbourn and baptised at All Saints’ Church, Fulbourn on 30 October 1803. He was the son of Samuel and Mary Curtis and married Susan Spinks in 1843. They had at least five children: Jane (1844-1910), Eliza (1846-1924), John (1851-1912), Mary Ann (1854-1938) and Henry (1858-1910). Robert was a shoemaker and the family lived at Corn Exchange Street. He died at home aged 66 and newspapers announced his death as ‘much lamented and deeply respected’.
Susan Curtis (née Spinks) (1813 – 26 July 1896)
Susan was born in Mildenhall and baptised there on 27 June 1813. She was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth and married Robert Curtis when she was c.30 years old.
After she was widowed she continued to live at Corn Exchange Street and was working as a college servant in 1881. By 1891 she had moved to live with son John at 84 Huntingdon Road and died aged 83 years old.
John Oswald Curtis (16 July 1881 – 11 April 1882)
John was the son of John and May Ann Curtis and died before his first birthday.
Sidney Archibald Curtis (26 July 1883 – 24 September 1883)
Sidney was John Oswald Curtis’ younger brother and died aged 8 weeks old.
John Curtis (1851 – 1 July 1912)
John was the eldest son of Robert and Susan Curtis and worked as a clerk. In 1871 he was living at Corn Exchange Street with his widowed mother and married Mary Ann Franklin (1853-1938) on 25 December 1873 at Kingston, Cambridgeshire. The couple lived at Corn Exchange Street (1881) but then moved to 84 Huntingdon Road (at least 1891 onwards). Their only two children died as infants. John worked as a builder’s clerk, and died in Bassingbourn aged 61 years old.
