George Dickerson (1837 -15 July 1870)
George was the eldest son of publican George and Eliza (née Ling). Aged 13 George was living at Mill Lane and was documented as an apprentice (1851). No further details are known of his life.
Charles Dickerson (c.1842 – 12 January 1871)
Charles was the second son of George and Eliza. In 1861 he was living with his parents at the Telegraph Tavern, Hills Road and was working as a railway goods porter. He died aged 28 years old and waas buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 16 January.
James Dickerson (c.1852 – 15 August 1884)
James was the youngest son of George and Eliza and was baptised on 16 January 1853 at St. Mary the Less Church. He grew up at the Telegraph Tavern and by 1871 was working as a carpenter. He married Martha Coppack (1853-1934) in Cheshire in 1874. Martha was from Cheshire, but had come to Cambridge to work as a servant for Sarah Gardener at Dorset Terrace, Hills Road (1871). James and Martha had seven children: George Thomas (1875-1942), Avery Elizabeth (1876-1922), Alice Mary (1878-), Annie May (1879-1958), Charles James (1881-) and two further children who have not yet been idetified. The family lived at 164 Gwydir Street (1881) and James died at Romsey Terrace, Mill Road aged 31 years old.
His widow Martha died in 1934 and is buried at North Watford Cemetery.
James and Martha’s daughter in law Edith Florence (Flora) Dickerson (1874-1914) is also buried at Mill Road Cemetery.
From Parish burial records it is known that George and Elizabeth Dickerson are also buried in the same grave as their sons
George Dickerson (1806 – 8 February 1881)
George was born in Trumpington and married Eliza Ling on 7 July 1833 in Haslingfield. They had at least four children: Avery (1834-1873), George, Charles and James and George was a publican. He ran a pub on Mill Lane (1851) before moving to the Telegraph Tavern by at least 1859.
In April 1859 he was charged with having his pub open ‘for the sale of beer before half past twelve’ on a sunday. He admitted that he served three customers before time and was fined 10s and expenses. He was fined again in August 1859 for a similar offence. He died aged 74 years old and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 12 February.
Elizabeth (Eliza) Dickerson (née Ling) (1812 – 12 May 1879)
Eliza was born in Haslingfield and died at Station Street aged 67 years old.
George and Eliza’s daughter Avery Frisby died in October 1873 at the Telegraph Tavern and was buried in the adjacent grave, which has not yet been identified.
