Eliza was born in Burnham, near Windsor and baptised there on 23 July 1871. She was the daughter of Richard and Rebecca Goode and grew up in nearby Taplow where her parents worked in a paper mill. In 1891 she was working as a kitchenmaid for Frederick and Mary Wigan at their home Clare Lawn, Mortlake. She married William Dodds on 15 April 1897 at St, Matthew’s Church, Hammersmith. In 1901 the couple were living in Hammersmith with her niece Emma and William was working as a clerk in a building company. By 1911 the couple were working for widower Richard Pearce at his home in Kensington. William was butler and Eliza was the cook, aided by a housemaid and kitchen maid. They had moved to Cambridge by at least 1935, and William worked as a college servant. In 1939 they were living at 43 Garden Walk – William had retired and Eliza was running a University Lodging House. Eliza died at home and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 14 November 1947.
