Mary Ann Kemp (1833 – 28 July 1854)

Mary was born in Little Abington, Cambridgeshire and was the daughter of tailor John Kemp and his wife Elizabeth. In 1851 she was living in Clerkenwell, where she was a domestic servant to surgeon Frederick Fogarty and his wife Emily.  Mary died at her sister Emily’s house at New Square, Cambridge and her funeral was held on 3 August 1854.

Elizabeth Eve Kemp (1830 – 31 May 1858)

Emily was born in Linton, and baptised there on 30 July 1820. She married clerk  Richard Looker in 1847 and they lived at Melbourne Place (1851) and 18 New Square. Emily died at home and her age was registered as being 46 years, but the grave monument reads 45 years.

Richard Looker (1821 – 6 January 1900)

Richard was born in Toft, the son of farmer Richard Looker and his wife Elizabeth. He was baptised in Toft on 6 August 1821 and worked as a solicitor’s accounts clerk for Messrs. Francis, Francis and Collin for just under 60 years. After he was widowed he lodged at 10 Earl Street (1871) and 14 New Square (at least 1881 onwards). He died at New Square and his death was reported in the Cambridge Daily News: ‘The death has taken place from influenza of Mr. Richard Looker, a well known figure in Cambridge….(his employers) will find it hard to replace so valued and faithful a servant and friend. Mr Looker died practically in harness, for he had been ill only a week and was expected back to his work in a few days, but hemorrhage of the brain set in on Saturday, and the end came suddenly. He had been fond of hunting all his life, and had been out with the harriers as lately as Boxing Day’. His employers closed the office on the day of his death and also on the day of the funeral as a mark of respect.
