Inscription

John Desmond Fisher (6 January 1892 – 25 April 1923)  

John w was the first child of William and Mary Fisher. He attended the Roman Catholic School, Union Road, the Higher Grade School and then the County School.  At the County School his interest in science was nutured by teachers Miss Dawson and Mr Dumas and he eventually left to enter Downing College as a foundation scholar. In June 1913 he was placed in Class 1, of the Natural Science Tripos (part 1). His success was reported in the Cambridge Independent Press.

In June 1915 he was appointed  headmaster of St. Mary’s College in St. Lucia and local newspapers reported ‘he had a distinguished career at the University and his many friends will wish him the best of fortune in the responsible position he has gained.  More of his achievements at the college can be read here.

He returned to England in 1919 due to ill-health and died at 5 Carlyle Road aged 31 years old.

Joseph Basil Fisher (1894 – 1896)

Joseph was the second child of William and Mary. He was born on May 28th 1894 and buried on February 4th 1896 aged 20 months.
