William married Ann Compton on 1 April 1839 at St. Mary the Less Church and they had at least four children: William John (1849-1932), Charles (1855-1929), Agnes (1858-1941) and Henry (1861-1954). They lived at 5 Little St. Mary’s Lane (1851), 5 Russell Place (1861/1871) and 19 Russell Street (1881). William worked as a servant (1841), painter’s labourer (1851) and then college servant. He died aged 61 years old.
Ann Hagger (née Compton) (1826 – 14 January 1902)
Ann was the daughter of Henry and Ann (née Brown) and was baptised on Boxing Day 1826 at St. Mary the Less Church. Henry was a groom and she grew up at Little St. Mary’s Lane. After she was widowed she ran a Lodging House from 18 Russell Street with the help of daughter Agnes, and died at home aged 75 years old.
Agnes Hagger (22 February 1858 – 5 March 1941)
Agnes was the only daughter of William and Ann – aged 23 she was working as a domestic servant in Hove, Sussex. She returned to Cambridge to help her mother run a Lodging House from 18 Russell Street (1891 onwards) and remained there until her death aged 83 years old. She died at Mill Road Infirmary.
