Minnie Harris (née Stuart) (2 November 1861 – 20 June 1948)
Minnie was born in Kennington and was the daughter of John and Rebecca Stuart. John was a law clerk, and Minnie grew up at 71 Royal Road in Lambeth (1871). Aged 29 she was living with her sister Mary and working as a draper’s assistant (1891). She married Benjamin Stanley Harris (1863-1908) on 17 August 1896 at Christ Church, Camberwell. Benjamin was a commercial clerk and they lived at Trumpington Street. The couple had two children: Gladys Stuart (1897-) and Stanley Gordon (1899-1918). Benjamin suffered from ill-health and was hospitalised in June 1908. He died at the Fulbourn Hospital in September the same year aged 45 years old.
Minnie then ran a lodging house from 14 Trumpington Street (1911) before moving to 39 Victoria Park (1939). In 1939 she was living there with her ninety year old Caroline Stuart. She died at Victoria Park aged 86 years old.
Minnie and Benjamin’s son Stanley Gordon Harris was killed at Flanders in World War One aged 19 years.
