Stanley (Stan) Frederick Kimmence (27 September 1890 – 17 March 1927)
Stan was the eldest son of Noah and Ellen (née Glazin) Kimmence and grew up at 18 Broad Street (1891) and then Clare House, 17 Romsey Road (1898 onwards). Noah was a carpenter and Stanley worked as a cement tester/cement chemist. He enlisted in the army on 1 September 1914 and served as a Lance Corporal with the Suffolk Regiment, before transferring to the Royal Engineers in September 1915. He was promoted to Corporal in September 1915 and served as an acting sergeant in 1917. Towards the end of the war he served in the United States before being demobilised in February 1919. Stan married Violet Emma Jones (1895-1968) on 9 June 1924 and died at 28 Hobart Street after a ‘very painful illness’.
Stan’s brother Ted Kimmence was killed at the front in 1915. and is remembered at Mill Road Cemetery.
His widow Violet married for a second time in 1934 to Charles Rolfe Dunn (1906-1994) and died at 21 Victoria Street in April 1968.
Frederick James Jones (15 December 1872 – 15 February 1946)
Frederick was the son of Frederick and Salina and grew up 44 Staffordshire Street (1881) and 15 Cockburn Stret (1891) . His father was a tripe dresser (prepared tripe for human consumption) and by the age of 18 Frederick was working as a bill posters labourer. He married Emma Swann in 1893 and they had six children: Frederick (1894-), Violet Emma, William (1899-), Elsie Hilda (Peggy) (1901-1959), Lilian (1905-) and Harold Albert (1908-1986). The family lived at 9 Eden Street and by 1939 Frederick was described as a ‘billposter (master)’. He died at home and his funeral was held on 19 February.
Elsie Hilda (Peggy) Heath (17 June 1901 – 17 December 1959)
Peggy was the daughter of Frederick and Emma and married Sidney Charles Heath (1903-1969) on 29 January 1930. Sidney worked as a grocer and they lived at 9 Melbourne Place with their two children (not yet identified). In July 1941 Sidney joined the Birmingham police force. He was discharged in January 1943 on medical grounds and it is believed that the family returned to live at 65 Eden Street.
Emma Jones (née Swann) (8 July 1875 – 1968)
Emma was the daughter of labourer/carter John Swann and Emma. In 1891 she was working as a general servant at 177 Chesterton Road for widow Sarah Cable before marrying Frederick Jones in 1893. Emma died aged 92 years old in 1968.
