Henry Plumb Lingwood (c. February 1847 – February 1930)

Henry was born in Brandon and baptised there on 27 May 1849. He was the eldest son of messanger/postman William Lingwood (1823-1857)  and Louisa (née Plumb) (1821-) and grew up on London Road, Brandon. His father died when he was c.10 years old and his mother then married farm labourer Robert Bennett.

Henry married Harriet Claxton in Brandon on Christmas Day 1868. They started married life in Methwold, near Brandon (1871) before moving to 6 Herbert Street, Cambridge (1881) where Henry worked as a coal porter. By 1891 they were living at 18 Norfolk Street with nephew Walter Challis and Henry was documented as a coal dealer. In 1901 he was working as a bricklayers labourer, and the couple were living at 72 Catherine Street. He was widowed in 1907 and then married Beatrice Clayton in 1909.

In 1911 the pair were living at Catherine Street with Beatrice’s mother Harriet, and Henry was documented as being a gardener, working for the Corporation of Cambridge. By 1921 he was still working for the Corporation, but now as a labourer. He died at home  in February 1930 aged 82 years old, although documentation had his age at a rather more youthful 76 years.  He was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 13 February 1930.

Harriet Lingwood (née Claxton) (1845 – October 1907)

Harriet was also born in Brandon and baptised there on 27 July 1845. She was the daughter of James and Sarah Claxton, and grew up on Thetford Road in the town, where her father was a furrier (traded and prepared animal skins).  She died at Catherine Street aged 62 years old (although documenation recorded her age as 58 years) and was buried in the St. Andrew the Great part of the Cemetery on 22 October 1907.

Beatrice Alice Lingwood (née Clayton) (1873 – 17 March 1940)

Beatrice was born in Barton, the youngest daughter of Thomas (1826-1892) and Harriet (née Hobson) (1830-1919) , and was baptised on 5 October 1873. Her father was an agricultural labourer and after his death in 1892, Beatrice moved with her mother to live at 98 Catherine Street, where both women worked as laundresses. Henry and Harriet Lingwood would have been neighbours, and she married widower  Henry when she was 35 years old.

After his death she continued to live at Catherine Street and died at home aged 66 years old.  Her funeral was held on 20 March at Mill Road Chapel and ‘the interment followed in the family grave in the St. Andrew’s-the-Great (sic) portion of the grounds’.  The majority of the mourners were her neices and nephews.
