Annie Hignell (c.1842 – 21 March 1918)
Annie was the illegitimate daughter of Anne Elizabeth Hignell (1819-1887). In 1851 she was living with her mother at St John’s Back Lane with Anne’s aunt Elizabeth Hignell who was a coffee seller. Anne married college servant George Scotney Wilson (1824-1857) in 1851 and had two children Alfred Hignell (1852-1927) and Margaret Hignell (1854-) who were Annie’s half siblings. After George Wilson died in June 1857 Anne and her three children remained living at St. John’s Passage where she had taken over her aunt’s coffee selling business. Annie was working as a dressmaker in 1861.
By April 1871 Annie was working as a housemaid at 86 Gloucester Place in London, the home of barrister /landowner Charles and Sophia De La Pryme. Whilst in London she fell pregnant with daughter Kate Elizabeth Hignell (1871-1958) who was born in Cambridge in September 1871.
Annie lived at 13 Ram Yard with her brother Alfred, daughter Kate and mother Anne as a family unit. After Anne’s death in 1887 the three remained at Ram Yard – Annie worked as a dressmaker, Alfred as a compositor/printer and Kate as a school teacher. Annie died at Ram Yard in 1918
Alfred Hignell Wilson (1852 – 31 December 1937)
Alfred was the son of George and Anne, and half brother to Annie Hignell. He did not marry and lived with his sister and niece at Ram Yard, working as a compositor. He died at Mill Road Infirmary aged 85 years old.
