Isabella Bland (née Hunt) (1831 – 1874)
Isabella was the daughter of Charles and Margaret Hunt. She was born in Northampton Street on 9 June 1831 and baptised in St Giles’ church on July 3rd 1831 with her sister Elizabeth two years later. Her father was a cabinet maker. Her mother died in 1837 and Charles died a few years later. The girls were brought up on East Road, Cambridge by their grandparents. In 1851 Elizabeth was still with her grandparents but Isabella was working as a governess in Lincolnshire.
Isabella married Elias Bland, a draper of All Saints Passage, on January 3rd 1855 at the church of St Andrew the Less on Newmarket Road, Cambridge. Elias was the son of a farmer also named Elias and was born in Trumpington, Cambridgeshire. They lived in Bridge Street and Jesus Lane. At some point Elias became an undertaker. The couple had at least nine children: Margaret Elizabeth (1855-1939), Isabella (1857-1933), Charles Cooke Swinton (1859-1934), Kate (1860-1923), Thomas George Sidney (1862-1929), John Graves (1864-1937), Archibald Robert (1866-1936), Edith (1869-1962) and Ernest Elias (1871-1892).
After Isabella’s death Elias married Elizabeth and her daughter Isabella remained in the family home, at 1 Jesus Lane, until they died. Elias and Elizabeth are also buried in the Cemetery, in the parish area of All Saints.
Her grandparents John Graves Hunt, a cabinet maker, and Elizabeth are also buried in this parish. It may be that they are buried here. As the top of the stone is missing we have no way of verifying this.
