west face

‘In Remembrance of Ann the beloved wife of John Ives
Who departed this life  June 17 1872 aged 69 years.’

(The following is very hard to read but it is most likely a quotation from Isaiah 41:10)

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee:
be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee;
yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee
with the right hand of my righteousness.”

‘Also of John Ives beloved husband of the above
born  Dec 11 1801 died Jan 22 1879′

“His end was peace”

Ann was born in Cambridge and married John  Ives on 8 November 1824 in Chesterton. They had at least two children: Hiam (1825-1906) and a daughter who has not yet been unidentified. John was a coal porter and they lived at 17 Caroline Place (1851), 12 Broad Street (1861) and 1 Mill Street. Ann died at home aged 69 years old and her funeral took place on 19 June 1872.

John Ives (11 December 1801 – 22 January 1879)

John was born in Clare, Suffolk and baptised there on 17 January 1802. He was the son of Thomas Ives (1774-1839) and Hannah (née Sparrow) (1779-1860) and died at 1 Mill Street aged 77 years old.

Mary Ives  (née Jarvis) (1828 – 20 May 1898)

Mary married Hiam Ives on 7 December 1856 at St. Mary on the Hill Church, Chester. In 1871 the couple were running a pub in Chester, but had moved to live at 1 Mill Street, Cambridge by at least 1873. Hiam worked as a college waiter and Mary died at home aged 70 years old.
