Jane Wilkin (née Strutton) (31 January 1826 – 28 February 1870)

Jane was the daughter of plumber John Edward Strutton (1800-1830) and Elizabeth Jane (née Larkin). She married Daniel King on 22 December 1852 at St. Mary’s Church, Whitechapel and they had at least seven children: John Bartlett (1853-), Rebecca Jane (1855-1954), William Daniel (1859-1935), Henry John (1860-1891), Elizabeth Betsy (1862-1916), George Henry (1865-) and Jane Mary (1868-1958). John and Rebecca were born in Bermondsey, but the family had moved to Cambridge by the time William was born in 1859. Daniel worked as a gasfitter and the family lived at 77 Russell Street. Jane died at Russell Street aged 44 years old and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 6 March 1870.

Henry John  King (13 May 1860 – 23 April 1891)

Henry was the third son of Daniel and Jane and was baptised on 24 June 1860 at St. Paul’s Church. He lived at home and worked as a tailor.  He died at home aged 30 years old.

Daniel William King (8 September 1814 – 25 December 1899)

Daniel was born in London and baptised on 25 September 1814. He was the son of  mariner Daniel William King and his wife  Eliza Ann. He married Jane Strutton when he was 38 years old and after her death continued to live at Russell Street with his youngest  children. In 1871/1881  he was documented as a whitesmith and by 1891 was described as a retired gas fitter.  He died in Sheffield, whilst visiting his eldest son John, who was a railway clark and lived in the city.

Elizabeth Betsy  King (1862 – October 1916)

Elizabeth was baptised at St. Paul’s Church on 26 October 1862. She lived at Russell Street, with her parents and siblings and worked as a dressmaker.  After her father’s death she moved to live at 29 Norwich Street with her sisters Rebecca and Jane, where all three worked as dressmakers. She died at home aged 54 years old and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 4 October 1916.

Rebecca Jane King (2 February 1855 – 6 July 1954)

Rebecca was born in Bermondsey and baptised at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Bermondsey on 4 March 1855. She also worked as a dressmaker and from at least 1927 onwards  lived at 18 Royal Albert Almshouses, Hills Road with younger sister Jane. Rebecca died aged 99 years old.

Jane Mary King (20 May 1868 – 6 January 1958)

Jane was baptised on 29 May 1870 at St. Paul’s Church and lived with her sisters at Russell Street, then Norwich Street.  Jane and Rebecca lived together at the Royal Albert Homes. She died aged 89 years old.
