James Langford (1852 – 24 May 1925)

James was the son of Joshua and Jane and grew up at Burleigh Street. His father was a bricklayer’s labourer, and aged 18 James was working on the railway. He married Jane in 1879 and they had nine children: Edith Beatrice (1879-), Martha Jane (1881-1941), Maud Frances (1882-), John Frederick (1884-1959), Lilian May (1887-), Arthur James (1887-1971), Elizabeth Ann (1888-1972), Edward Charles (1892-1971) and Charles Ernest (1893-1974). In 1881 the family were living with James’ widowed mother at 5 Herbert Street and he was working as a general labourer, Jane as a dressmaker. They later lived at 3 Edward Street  (at least 1891 onwards) and he worked as a postman (1891) and then as a general labourer (1901).  In 1911 he was documented as being a labourer for a gas company and died at Edward Street aged 72 years old. His funeral took place on 27 May 1925.
