Elizabeth Lee  (née Edwards) (1858 – 10 October  1912)

Elizabeth was the daughter of painter George Edwards and was born in Cambridge. She married Arthur Lee on 3 September 1890 at Islington Parish Church and they had two children: Horace Arthur Male (1891-1965) and Claude George John (1893-1919).  Arthur was a solicitor’s clerk and the family lived at 6 Willow Walk (1891), 14 Priory Road (1901) and 25 Gwydir Street (1911). Elizabeth died at home and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 14 October 1912.

Arthur Male Lee (1863 – 14 February 1937)

Arthur was the son of John Male Lee (1822-1910) and Caroline (née Munns) (1920-1912) and was baptised on 26 April 1863 at St. Paul’s Church. He grew up at 12 Bentinck Street, and his father worked as a gardener, his mother was a dressmaker. By the age of 18 Arthur was working as a solicitor’s general clerk (1881) before marrying Elizabeth when he was 27 years old. By 1915 Arthur had moved to Lode where he ran a grocery shop. Both his sons served in the 1st World War, and Claude died in February 1919 as a result of a ‘very trying illness’ seemingly contracted whilst he was in the Army. The shop was later ran by his son Horace, and Arthur retired to live at The Laurels, Lode where he died aged 74 years old.
