Jane Kate Leland (1856 – 20 February 1919)

Jane was the daughter of Henry and Ann Leland.  She was baptised at All Saints Church on 21st December 1856.  Although she was baptised Jane, she appears to have been known as Kate throughout her life and never married.  She grew up on Park Street, and her parents worked as ‘college servants’. Aged 20 years old she was living in Cleckheaton in Yorkshire and working as a milliner.  By 1891 her parents had both died and she was back living in Cambridge at the family home – 43 Park Street.  In that year she was living with her four younger siblings: Jane, Charlotte, Harry and Ben.  Kate was working as a ‘milliners shopwoman’.  She continued to live at 43 Park Street with her younger sister Emily Ann [1901/1911] and worked as a milliner.  By 1911 Emily was also running a University Lodging house from the address too.  Kate died at 43 Park Street in 1919, Emily had died the previous year.
