Monument
This small beautifully carved cross is located 3 rows west of the central path and 3 monuments north of the south path. The inscription for George and his sister is very clear but the parent’s names are likely to be buried under soil.

In Affectionate Remembrance of GEORGE son of GEORGE & MARY ANN MACKAY born 11 Feb 1863 died 10 Feb 1869
“He is not dead but sleepeth”
Also EDITH AGNES sister of the above born May 9 1870 died Nov 13 1871

George Mackay (11 February 1863 – 10 February 1869)
George was the eldest son of George and Ann Mackay and died the day before his sixth birthday.
Edith Agnes Mackay (9 May 1870 – 13 November 1871)
Edith was baptised at St. Paul’s Church on 21 December 1870. She died at Eastbourne Terrace, 91 Hills Road aged 1 year and 6 months old
George Mackay (16 August 1820 – 22 November 1879)
George was born in Maldon, Essex and worked for the Inland Revenue. He married (Mary) Ann Rhodes and they had at least eight children: Mary Caroline (Carrie) (1861-1883), George (1863-1869), Harry Augustus (1865-), Robert George (1867-), Elizabeth Fanny (1867-), Edith Agnes (1870-1871), Percy Rhodes (1872-1901) and Charles Baillie (1877-). Their eldest daughter Mary was born in Scotland, but they had moved to Cambridge by 1863 where George was born. The family lived at 34 Hills Road, and then 5 Eastbourne Terrace, 91 Hills Road (1871) and George died at home aged 69 years old.
Mary Ann (Ann) (née Rhodes) Mackay (c.1841 – 1881)
Ann was born in Newcastle and after being widowed ran a Lodging House at Eastbourne Terrace (1881). Her burial was recorded in Cambridge as 29th December 1881, although the exact date is not known. She was 40 years old.
Mary Caroline (Carrie) Mackay (29 April 1861 – 17 March 1883)
George and Ann’s eldest daughter died in Earl St Cambridge aged 21 years and the grave register shows that she was also buried here.
