Elizabeth Annie Maltby (née Cottage) (12 November 1849 – 16 September 1907)
Elizabeth was born in Whittlesford and was baptised there on 13 June 1851. She was the daughter of baker/publican Charles Cottage (1822-1871) and his wife Jesse Ann (née Arnold)(1821-1851). Her mother died when she was 18 months old, and Charles then married Louisa Young (1833-1864) in 1854. In 1861 Elizabeth was living with her family at the Gamekeepers Lodge, Trumpington as Charles was by then working as a gamekeeper. She married William Maltby in 1876 and they had at least one son: Frederick William (1877-1939). William worked as a bricklayer’s labourer and they lived at 19 Queen’s Street (1881). By 1891 William was a railway telegraph foreman and in 1901 the family had moved to live at 17 Hooper Street. Elizabeth died at Hooper Street aged 57 years old (although her grave monument records her age as 56 years).
William John Maltby (1849 – 22 September 1935)
William was the son of James and Elizabeth and was baptised on 6 January 1850 at St. Paul’s Church. James Maltby was a shoemaker and the family lived at 69 Cambridge Place. After he was widowed he went to live with son Frederick and daughter in law Lily at 89 Mawson Road (at least 1919 onwards) and died at Mill Road Infirmary. His funeral took place on 26 September.
