Charlotte Mansfield [nee Papworth] (c.1824 – 23 April 1887)
Charlotte was the daughter of Richard and Ann Papworth. She was born in Cambridge and baptised on 3rd February 1824. In 1841 she was working as a milliner. She married Stephen Mansfield in 1850 when she was 26 years old. Together they had at least four children: Louisa [1851-1938], Ellinor [1855-1928], Alfred Charles [1860-1945] and Gertrude Minnie [1863-1944].
In 1851 the couple were living at 1 Clarendon Street, and Stephen was a draper’s assistant. In 1861 and 1871 they were living at 20 Victoria Street and Stephen was a draper. In 1881 they were living at 2 Harvey Road, and running the drapery business from 12 Market Street. Charlotte died at 2 Harvey Road aged 63 years old.
Stephen Mansfield (5 May 1825 – 29 July 1905)
Stephen was born in Cambridge and baptised on 10th April 1832. He was the son of William and Esther Ann Mansfield.
He was widowed in 1887 when he was 61 years old. In 1891 he was living at Gilmerton, on Cambridge Road in Trumpington – his daughter Lousia and her family lived there also. He had retired from the drapery business by 1891 and his son Alfred Charles Mansfield had taken the business over. Stephen Mansfield died at Gilmerton in July 1905 when he was 80 years old. He left an estate valued at £32,085 8s and 7d. (£2.7 million at 2019 value)
