William Markham (1850 – 26 November 1931)
William was born in Holloway, London but grew up in Easton Socon, Bedfordshire with his parents Edward and Martha. Edward Markham was an agricultural worker and William worked as a farmer’s boy (sic) (1861) and later as a groom (1871) and coachman. He married Lucy Dumbleton and they had eleven children: William Dumbleton (1873-1944), Albert Edgar (1876-1953), Elizabeth Jane (1879-1941), Henry Edward (Harry) (1880-1950), Ada Eleanor (1882-), Arthur Edwin (1884-1967), Herbert William (1886-1939), Harold Ernest (1887-1913), Daisy Kate (1890-1890), Nellie Florence (1892-1910) and Percy Stanley (1895-1914). They lived in Biggleswade until at least 1891, and then lived in Great Staughton, eight miles west of Huntington (1901) before moving to live at 117 Ross Street, Cambridge (at least 1910 onwards). Wiliam died at Ross Street aged 81 years old.
Lucy Ann Markham (née Dumbleton) (1853 – 31 July 1936)
Lucy was born in Caxton, a village nine miles west of Cambridge and was the daughter of tailor John Dumbleton and his wife Elizabeth (née Pope). Before her marriage to William Markham she worked as a general servant in St. Neots. Lucy died at 117 Ross Street aged 82 years old.
Percy Stanley Markham (1895 – 5 July 1914)
Percy was born in Biggleswade, and aged 15 was working as an errand boy. He died aged 18 years old.
Herbert William Markham (1885 – 12 January 1939)
Herbert was born in Biggleswade and in 1911 was working as a baker. He died at 117 Ross Street and his funeral took place on 16 January at St. Philip’s Church.
