Harry Thomas Medcalf (1872 – 27 December 1936)
Harry was born in Kedington, near Haverhill in Suffolk. Little is known of his early life, but aged 26 he was working as a butcher in Haverhill (1901). He married Rosa Evelyn Doggett (1874-1956) in 1904 and they had at least three children: Kate (Kitty) (1905-1911), Harry Jack (1906-1988) and Kenneth Frederick (1914-1989). In 1911 the family were living at 179 East Road, where Harry ran a sweet shop. He died at East Road aged 64 years old.
Harry’s son Kenneth took over the running of the sweet shop after his death.
Kate (Kitty) Medcalf (1905 – 18 October 1911)
Kitty was born in Kedington and attended the East Road Infants’ School. In June 1910 she won a class prize for perseverance.
