Monument
This headstone stands 3 rows west the east path in the parish of Holy Sepulchre. It has been covered by ivy for many years and some of the carved inscription is now difficult to read. Because we had not found it when the parish was mapped in 2019 there is no direct link to google maps but Wheaton HS92 is directly behind it. This area is usually left to grow wild and the monument may not be visible from the path.

Sarah Morley (née Isom) (1843 – 14 April 1913)
Sarah was born in Lexden, Colchester and baptised at St. Leonard’s Church on 3 December 1843. She was the daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth and her father was an agricultural labourer. Aged 18 she was working as a general servant to the Clary family in Stanway, Essex before marrying Christopher Morley on 20 September 1866 in Lexden. Christopher worked as a bricklayer and they lived in Haverhill (1871), 27 Willow Place (1881), 19 Kingston Street (1891), 100 Gwydir Street (1901) and 93 Mill Road (1911).
Sarah and Christopher had seven children: Florence Elizabeth (Flora) (1868-1948), Elenor Edith (1869-1922), Bertha Albina (1872-1916), Henry Christopher (1873-1883), Ernest Charles (1876-1896), Arthur R (1878-) and May Emmerline (1881-). By 1911 the couple were living with daughter May and her husband Heber on Mill Road, where Heber was a draper. Sarah was described on the 1911 census as a tailoress, so might have been assisting in the business. She died at Mill Road aged 69 years old.
Christopher Morley (14 November 1838 – 14 November 1921)
Christopher was born in Linton and baptised there on 10 February 1839. He was the son of Charles and Ann and grew up on the High Street in Linton where his father was a bricklayer. Christopher also worked as a bricklayer and married Sarah when he was 27 years old. He died at High Street, Cottenham and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 18 November.
