Charles Norfield (1870 – 3 February 1927)
Charles was the son of James and Susannah (née Chapman) and grew up on the High Street in Chesterton. James Norfield was a labourer, and after Susannah died in 1878, Charles was raised by his step mother Mary Ann (née Shipp). Aged 21 Charles was lodging at 14 Argyle Stret and was working as a ‘traveller boots’ (assumed to be a travelling salesman). He married Mary Jane Coe (1869-1957) in 1892 and they had four children: Walter James (1893-1970), Charles Victor (1897-1986), Harry (1901-1966) and another child who died as an infant.
Charles later became a cab proprietor (a type of carriage) and the family lived at 33 Cockburn Street (1901) and then 11 Thoday Street (at least 1904 onwards). He died aged 56 years old.
Mary Norfield continued to live at 11 Thoday Street until at least 1939 and died in 1957 aged 88 years old.
