Alfred Paine (20 April 1863 – 4 September 1907)

Alfred was the son of John and Ann (née Freeman) Paine. His father died in 1866, when Alfred was very young and he then lived with his mother on King Street (1871). In 1881 he was a pupil at St. Andrew’s School in Marylebone, which was run by Rev. Ernest Smith, a Cambridge graduate.  Alfred married Eliza Harriet Newberry (also sometimes spelt Newbery) on 20 August 1883 at St. Giles’ Church, Cambridge.  They had two children: Winifred Louise (1885-1956) and Gordon Newberry (1886-1932).

In 1891 the family were living at 32 Regent Street and Alfred was working as a printer’s reader. They later moved to Ingleside, which was on Pike’s Walk, near to Christ’s Pieces. In 1901 Alfred was working as a commercial clerk, and Harriet as a fancy dealer (a shop keeper of kind).  Alfred died at home aged 44 years old.

Eliza Paine (c.1861 – 1934) went to live at 21 Newmarket Road and in 1911 was running a ladies’ clothing store. She died at the Grove Nursing Home in 1934 aged 73 years old.
