Martha was born in Stretham, a village between Cambridge and Ely and was the daughter of agricultural labourer John Dimmock and his wife Sarah. Ingle worked as a railway cleaner and they lived at 48 Kingston Street (1891). By 1901 they were living at Ely House, 46 Cavendish Road and he was documented as being a railway stoker, the couple were also raising their two nephews (13 year old Frederick Dimmock and 11 year old Albert Dimmock). They were still living at Ely House in 1911 but later moved to 47 Mill Road.

Ingle was born in Over, Cambridgeshire and was the son of Richard and Sarah. He grew up at Church End (1871) then Swavesey Road (1881) and Richard Papworth was an agricultural labourer. In 1881 Ingle was living in Over and working as an agricultural labourer like his father, before going to work on the railway. He married Martha when he was c.26 years old and after her death married widow Bertha Ann Underwood (née Radford) (1871-) in 1928. The couple stayed living at 47 Mill Road until at least 1930 and then retired to live at Chez Nous, Wilingham Road in Over where Ingle died in 1936.
