Inscription
Catherine Patmore (née Beaumont) (1784 – 15 November 1869)
Catherine was born in Bishop’s Stortford and baptised at the non-conformist chapel on 28 June 1874. She was the daughter of baker William Beaumont and Hannah and married widow Thomas Patmore (1772-1847) on 29 July 1820 at St. Bride’s Church, Fleet Street. Thomas’ first wife Elizabeth (née Percival) had died in 1819 and he had several children from this marriage. He was a brewer/maltster with a sizeable business located on South Street in Bishop’s Stortford and he and Catherine had one daughter: Catherine Beaumont (1824-1902). In 1841 the family were living at North Street with two domestic servants.
Thomas Patmore died in February 1847, and in August of that year Catherine Beaumont Patmore married James Cranwell Peters (1819-1867) in Bishop’s Stortford. James was a goldsmith/silversmith and jeweller with a shop at 9 St. Mary’s Passage and Catherine went to live with them. James Peters died in 1867 aged 47 years old, and Catherine died two years later aged 85 years.
James Cranwell Peters and Catherine Beaumont (née Patmore) had six children, two of whom died young and were buried with their grandmother.
Catherine Elizabeth Peters (1848 – 7 February 1872)
Catherine was the eldest child and was baptised on 1 October 1848 at St. Mary the Great Church. In 1871 she was at the Baths, Bournemouth with her mother and three sisters. She died at 11 White Rock Place in Hastings aged 23 years old.
Eleanor Peters (1857 – 11 March 1873)
Eleanor was the fourth daughter of James and Catherine Peters and was baptised on 2 December 1857 at St. Mary the Great. Eleanor is thought to have been in school in Clifton, Bristol and died there aged 15 years. She was buried in Cambridge on 18 March.
Catherine Beaumont Peters married for a second time in 1874 to bachelor Henry Jennings (1818-1889). Henry was a brewer/maltster from Bishop’s Stortford and after being widowed for a second time she moved to live in St. Leonard’s on Sea where she died in 1902.
