Sarah Ann Press (née Pilgrim) (d 1927)

Sarah was baptised on 5 October 1851 at St. Paul’s Church, Cambridge and grew up at 16 Staffordshire Street. She was the daughter of Valentine Robert Pilgrim and his wife Susan.  Her father worked as a smith and boiler maker, and her mother was a dressmaker. She married John Press in 1873 and the couple did not have any children. John was a butcher and later worked as a  jobbing gardener and they lived at 17 Norfolk Street (1881), 2 Union Terrace (1891) and then at 17 Edward Street (1901/1911). She died aged 76 years old.

John Press (1850 – 12 January 1934)

John was the son of John and Ann and grew up at 2 Caroline Place (1861).  His father was a labourer and aged 21 John was lodging with the Hennings family on Broad Street and working as a butcher.  He married Sarah when he was 23 years old and after being widowed continued to lived at Edward Street. He died at home aged 83 years old.
