Emily was Charles’ second wife, his first wife Harriet Ann (née Brewtey) (1848-1890) died in July 1890 and he had married Emily Wood at St. Martin in the Field on 25 January 1891.

Mary died when Alfred was five months old and he then married Julia Holmes.

He ran a jewellery shop at 15 Market Hill/Market Place and worked in conjunction with his son Alfred until 1877. Thereafter he appeared to have worked with his other son Charles and the business was called Reed & Son. They sold watches, silver plated cutlery and ivory handled table cutlery. Newspaper adverts made much of his connection to Queen Victoria.

He also represented St. Mary the Great on the Improvement Commissioner’ Board and was a treasurer and member of the Church of England Young Men’s Society.
