Emily Caroline Rix (née Cable) (1864 – 22 August 1933)
Emily was born in Halstead, Essex and baptised there on 4 April 1877 when she was 12 years old. She was the daughter of Henry and Caroline, sister of Frederick George and grew up in Halstead where both her parents were as weavers. Aged 17 (1881) Emily was lodging at New Weavers Row in Halstead and working as a silk plug winder. Her parents and siblings meanwhile had moved to live at Cross Street, Cambridge and Henry was working as a baker by 1881. Emily married fellow baker William Gardiner Rix (1862-1938) in Cambridge in 1885.
The couple lived in Rochester, Kent for many years where William worked as a baker’s foreman (1891/1901) and in 1911 was documented as being a journeyman baker for the Co-operative Society. By at least 1930 William had retired and the couple retured to Cambridge to live 92 Glisson Road.
William Rix continued to live at Glisson Road and died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital on 9 September 1938.
