Sacred to the Loved Memory of MARY ROBINSON died August 15th 1905 aged 84
“He bringeth unto the Haven, where they would be.”
Mary Robinson (21 April 1822 – 15 August 1905)
Mary was born in Haverhill and was the daughter of Mark (1780-1838) Elizabeth (née Chaplin) (1783-1852). She was baptised at the Independent Chapel, Linton on 13 June 1823. IIn 1841 she was living at Moon Hall Farm, Haverhill with her widowed mother and three siblings. By 1851 she was living with her widowed mother in Steeple Bumpstead and the two woemn were running a farm of 125 acres, employing 5 men. After her mother’s death Mary was housekeeper to farmer John Cook who lived in Fulbourn (1861). She then moved to Cambridge, and was a housekeeper at 12 Market Street, the shop of draper Eaden Lilley. The company employed many draper’s assistants, and Mary appears to have been the housekeeper for these employees (1871/1881). She was admitted to the Fulbourn Asylum on 21 November 1904 and died there aged 83 years old (despite her grave monument reading 84 years). The executor of her will was Emily Mary Cook the daughter of John Cook, who she had worked for in 1861.
