Monument
This headstone, located in the northern section of the parish of Andrew the Great, stands north of the centre circle,1 row west of the central path. It’s position under a large fir tree has afforded it some protection and the carved inscription is still clear.

In Affectionate Remembrance of GEORGE SAMUEL ROSE died April 3 1852 aged 36 years
HARRIET his wife died March 26 1872 aged 55 years
ELIZA their daughter died Feb 14 1856 aged 6 years
ELIZABETH their daughter died Feb 17 1856 aged 4 years
George Samuel Rose (1815 – 3 April 1852)
George was born in Oakham, Rutland and was baptised there on 29 October 1915. He was the son of butler Samuel Rose and his wife Sarah. George trained as a cook and married Harriet Harold on 17 June 1844 at Holy Trinity Church, Gray’s Inn Road. The couple had four children: Alfred George (1846-1931), Henry Harold (1847-1936), Eliza (1849-1856) and Elizabeth (1851-1856). They lived at Downing Place, and George worked as a cook at Clare Hall. He was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 8 April 1852.
Harriet Rose (née Harold) (9 April 1817 – 26 March 1872)
Harriet was the daughter of John and Mary, and her father was a carpenter. She was born in Thetford, Norfolk and was baptised at the Wesleyan Chapel in the town on 11 May 1817. Harriet also worked as a cook, and in 1861 was living at Pembroke Street with her two sons, and servant Susan Hancock. She was 43 and had retired by this point. She later moved to 4 Tennis Court Road, where she died aged 54 years old.
Eliza Rose (1849 – 14 February 1856)
Eliza died at Pembroke Street and was buried on 15 February 1856.
Elizabeth Rose (1852 – 17 February 1856)
Elizabeth was baptised on 23 April 1852 at St Andrew the Great and died at Pembroke Street two days after her sister. Her funeral was held on 21 February.
