John Smith (1802 – 3 September 1875)
John was born in the village of Mulbarton, south west of Norwich. He married Sophia Reeve at St. Edward’s Church, Cambridge in 1828 and ran the Red Cow pub at Corn Exchange Street for many years. The couple lived at 10 Downing Terrace, and John was described variously as a ‘proprietor of houses’ (1851), a ‘gentleman’ (1861) and ‘retired publican’ (1871). He died at Downing Terrace and his funeral was held on 7 September.
Sophia Smith (née Reeve) (1805 – 19 November 1875)
Sophia was born in Great Shelford and baptised there on 10 July 1808. She was the daughter of John and Susanna (née Mansfield) and died at Downing Terrace a few weeks after her husband.
