Ethel Speed (née Evans) (13 May 1879 – 22 June 1961)

Ethel was the daughter of John and Ann Elizabeth Evans and grew up at 88 King Street. Her father was a college porter and aged 21 Ethel was living at 7 New Square, working as a general servant for Charles and Maria White. She married John Speed in 1906 and they had at least three children: Dorothy Alice Frances (1906-1952), William John Thomas (1911-1987) and Douglas Ernest (1923-1931). John worked as a basket maker and they lived in Leighton Buzzard from at least 1911-1923 when youngest son Douglas was born. They lived at 2 Fairfax Road from at least 1939-1962 and Ethel died in Cambridge aged 82 years old.

Douglas Ernest Speed (1923 – 27 May 1931)

Douglas was born in Leighton Buzzard and died at the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Mill Road, Cambridge aged 8 years old.

John Speed (25 March 1877 – 29 October 1963)

John was the son of William and Sarah and was born in Haddenham. William was a labourer and the family lived at High Street Chesterton (1881- at least 1901) and aged 14 John was also working as a general labourer. By 1901 he was working as a basket maker and married Ethel Evans when he was 28 years old. He died at Chesterton Hospital in 1963.
