Monument
This cross and kerb stones stand 4 plots south of the south path and 17 rows from the Mackenzie St entrance, in the parish area of St Paul’s. It is in an area that is often left to grow wild. We did not uncover the entire monument but it seems to be in good order.
Inscription
In Loving Memory of HARRIET THOMPSON died 6 Dec. 1913 aged 70 years.

Harriet Ellis Thompson (née Ingrey) (1843 – 6 December 1913)
Harriet was born in Tadlow, a village twelve miles south west of Cambridge and was the daughter of Joseph and Eliza (née Camps). Her father was an agricultural labourer and aged 18 Harriet was living at Benet Place, working as a servant for David and Louise Stewart. She married Henry Thompson in 1866 and they had thirteen children: Henry James (Harry) (1866-1946), George William (1868-1944), Ernest (1869-1874), Aubrey (1871-1947), Harriet Amy (1874-1960), William Godfrey (1876-1957), Ernest Frank (1878-1881), Barnabas Charles (188-1911), Marjorie May (1882-1949), Winifred Hilda (1884-1958), Ernest Frank (1885-), Helen Maud (1891-1953) and one further child who died as an infant. Henry was a cabinet maker and the family lived at 15a Princes Street (1871), Covent Garden (1881), 45 Perowne Street (at least 1891 onwards). Harriet died at home and her funeral was held on 11 December.
Henry Thompson (1844 – 3 June 1925)
Henry was born in Cambridge, the son of groom/coachman James Thompson and Elizabeth. He grew up at 12 James Street (1851) and 79 Russell Street (1861) and aged 16 was an apprentice cabinet maker. Henry died at Perowne Street aged 81 years old.
From parish burial records it is known that two of Henry and Harriet’s infant children are also buried in the same grave
Ernest Thomspon (1869 – November 1874)
Ernest was baptised at St. Paul’s Church on 31 October 1869 and died at Covent Garden aged 5. He was buried on 18 November. Both the burial record and the grave record give his age as 5 months but the death register records 5 years.
Ernest Frank Thompson (1878 – June 1881)
Ernest died at Perowne Street aged 3 years old and was buried on 4 June.
