John Thompson (c.1817 – 26 November 1866)

John  was born in Cambridge and was the son of John.  He married Jane Page on 3 February 1839 at All Saints’ Church and the couple had at least seven children: Alfred Barnard (1839-1927), Henry (1841-), Emily (1842-), Charles William (1844-), Alice (1849-1939), Barnard George (1853-1913) and Jane (1856-1928). John was a shoe and bootmaker and ran a shop from King Street (1841). In 1851 the family were living at York Street and then moved to just off Bridge Street (1861).  He died at King Street aged 49 years old.

Jane Thompson (née Page)  (28 September 1815 – 27 May 1891)

Jane was born in Bedfordshire and baptised at the Howard Chapel, Mill Street in Bedford on 14  July 1816.  She was the daughter of Joseph and Hannah and married  John  Thompson in Cambridge when she was 23. In 1871 she was living at King Street and working as a shoebinder, before moving to 4 Wray’s Court, Sidney Street (1881) where she was documented as being a church cleaner.   Her daughter Jane had married William Taverner, a porter with Great Eastern Railway and in  April 1891  she was living with them in Enfield.  Jane died there the following month and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery
