Richard Thorne (c.1875 – 11 April 1931)
Little is known of Richard’s life. He married Bessie Lilian Mary Butler (1880-1977) in Essex in 1912 and they had at least two daughters: Ella and Joan. The family had moved to Cambridge by at least 1929 and Richard ran the Ship Inn, Princes Street (off Coronation Street). He died at Addenbrookes Hospital aged 56 years old.
Ella Bessie Butler Thorne (1913 – 11 April 1937)
Ella was born in Hertford and in October 1929 started working as a typist at the Post Office. She died aged 23 years old.
Joan Sheila Butler Thorne (1915 – 6 November 1938)
Joan was living at the Ship Inn with her mother in 1938 and also died aged 23 years old.
Bessie Thorne ran the Ship Inn after she was widowed. She married Percy Goodman in 1942 and died aged 96 years old.
