Sarah Ann Elizabeth (Annie) Turner (née Gilbert) (1860 – 12 February 1934)

Annie Turner (née Gilbert)

Annie was born in Harston and baptised there on 7 October 1860. She was the daughter of  shepherd Thomas Gilbert and Mary Susannah and grew up in Harston (1861) and Great Shelford (1871). She married John Turner in London in 1883 and they had four children: William Gilbert (1884-1955), Alma (1885-1963) and twin girls:  Elsie Constance Jane (1890-1891) and Grace Ethel Mary (1890-). Both their sons were born in London, but they had moved to Cambridge by the time the twins were born in May 1890. John worked as a bursar’s clerk at St. John’s College and the family lived at 48 Tenison Road (1891), 6 High Street, Chesterton (1901), Holmleigh, Fitzwilliam Road (1911) and 11 Chesterton Hall Crescent (at least 1918 onwards). Annie died aged 73 years old and her funeral took place on 15 February 1934.

John William Turner (25 March 1859 – 18 December 1940)

John was born in Leicester and baptised on 12 June 1859 at St. George’s Church, Leceister. He was the eldest son of Joseph and Jane and by 1871 the family had moved to live at Ainsworth Street. Joseph Turner was a railway engine driver and John worked as a clerk and also was a teacher of shorthand. He had retired by 1939 and died at home aged 81 years old.

Elsie  Constance Jane Turner (9 May 1890 – 26 February 1891)

Elsie was a twin and died at  48 Tenison Road aged 9 months old. She was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 2 March.
