Aged 17, Walter was living at home and working as a letter carrier (1901). He married Fanny Reynolds in 1909 and they had one daughter: Hilda Frances (1910-2002). Walter later worked as a bicycle trader and they lived at 32 East Road (1910), 27 Abbey Road (1914) and 18a Mill Road (at least 1918 onwards). He died at home aged 39 years old and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 6 November.
