Inscription

In Loving Memory of ELIZABETH A WATT d 29.4.1906 aged 82

Elizabeth Ann Watt (née Bailey) (15 October 1823 – 29 April 1906)

Elizabeth was born in Deptford, Kent and baptised at St. Paul’s Church, Deptford on 16 November 1823.  Her parents were William and Mary and her father was a paymaster and purser in the Royal Navy.  She married Robert Johnston Watt (1824-1884) in Greenwich on 8 June 1848. Robert was the son of William Watt, a surgeon at Greenwich Hospital and was station master of Cambridge Railway station when they married.  They had one son: Rev. George Deans Dundas (1850-1929).

George was born in Cambridge, but by 1851 the family had moved to Ely Station, where Robert was also the station master, and then to Halstead (1861/1871) where he was described as a railway manager. In 1874 he was the general manager for the Colne Valley Railway.  Robert and Elizabeth retired to live at Milly Lodge, 2 Park Road in Forest Hill. Their son George was a clergyman there, and he lived with them at Park Road. Robert died at Milly Lodge in June 1884. Elizabeth and her son continued to live at Milly Lodge and she died there in April 1906 aged 82 years. Why she was buried in Cambridge rather than with her husband is not known.  She was buried on 2 May 1906.

According to the grave register her son, Rev. George Deans Dundas, is buried two graves to the south. George Dundas became the vicar of Shipdham in Norfolk (1916) and then retired to live at 1 Lyndewode Road (1920). He died at Lyndewode Road aged 79 years. We have not found a monument.
