He married Tryphena White at Buckingham Parish Church on 21 May 1877 and they had three sons: David  Thomas Henry ( known as Harry) (1877-1958), Walter Ernest (1880-1950) and Arthur William (1885-1907).

William worked as a tailor and they family lived in Stretham, Wandsworth before moving to Bournemouth (at least 1891-1915) where he worked as a caretaker/verger at St. John’s Church, Boscombe.

Two of their sons joined the Army and were army musicians.  Youngest son Arthur was a trumpeter with the 16th Lancers, and died at Sussex County Hospital aged 22 years old from peritonis. Eldest son Henry was a chorister at Winchester College School and then joined the 18th Lancers as a bandsman and regimental organist.  After he left the army he joined the Cambridge Borough Police, where he was also the bandmaster.  Their other son Walter served in the Royal Navy, later also joining the Cambridge Police (at least 1909-1936), and playing in the police band.

By 1921 William and Tryphena had moved to live with Harry and his family at 18 Portugal Place, and William worked as a tailor at Joshua Taylor, Sidney Street.  The couple later moved to Little St. Mary’s Lane. William died at Mill Road Infirmary aged 71 years old and was buried in the Holy Trinity area of Mill Road Cemetery on 17 November 1927.
