Lester Jack Williams (1903 – 18 March 1931)

Lester was the second son of Fred and Harriet Williams and died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital aged 28 years old.

Harriet Elizabeth  Williams (née Pannell) (11 January 1866 – 14 January 1942)

Born in Haverhill, Harriet was the daughter of Abraham and Sirviner Pannell.  Abraham was a silk weaver and Sirviner worked as a jacket finisher. Harriet was a machinist before marrying stonemason Fred Williams in 1887. The couple had nine children: Lilly Maude (1888-1961), Charles Frederick (1893-1977), Kathleen May (1894-1973), Dora Susannah (1897-1948), Kitty Sirviner (1899-1968), Lester Jack, Frank (1905-1906), Alfred (1907-1993) and a child who died as an infant.  The family lived at 6 Doric Street (1901) and then 256 Mill Road (at least 1911 onwards). Harriet died at home three days after her 76th birthday.

Fredrick (Fred)  Williams (12 January 1864 – 15 February  1942)

Fred was the son of  Edward and Emma and was born in Withersfield, a village to the north of Haverhill, Suffolk. Edward Williams was an agricultural labour and Emma worked as a tailoress. Fred died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital ‘after much suffering patiently borne’ four weeks after the death of his wife.

His obituary noted ‘n the passing of deceased (sic) Romsey Town has lost a well known and much respected figure for his quiet disposition made for him many ture and loyal friends. Mr Williams was for about 40 yeas in business as a stone and monumental mason, and he will be greatly misses for his advice and kindly words of inspiration, which he so readily gave to all who came in contact with him’.
