Algar George Haigh (18 January 1875 – 7 March 1939)
Algar was the son of Thomas and Faith (née King) and grew up at Sturton Street (1881), Argyle Street (1891) and 21 John Street (1901). Thomas Haigh was a tailor and Algar also worked as a tailor. As a young man whe was said to have been a great sportsman and was a boxer and runner amongst other sports. He married Minnie Loker on 27 April 1905 at Christ Church, Cambridge and the couple had at least one daughter: Althelinda Florence (known as Linda) (1910-1960). He worked and lived at 105 East Road and applied to be exempt from conscription in the Great War. He was finally called up to serve in the R.A.F. at the very end of the war (August 1918 onwards). Algar retired c.1938 and he and Minnie moved to live at 155 Fitzroy Street where he died aged 64 years old. His funeral took place on 10 March and the Cambridge Daily News reported he ‘was one of the best known residents in the district’.
Minnie Sabina Haigh (née Loker) (11 December 1880 – 5 February 1958)
Minnie was the daughter of Arthur and Athelina (née Smith) and grew up at Gloucester Place. Her father was a labourer and she married Algar Haigh when she was 24 years old. After she was widowed she lived at 207 Mill Road with Linda, son in law Tom Kennedy and two grandchildren (1939) and died in Linton .
