Arthur Loker (1844- 4 August 1898)

Arthur was born in Cambridge and was the son of Thomas and Sarah Loker.  He grew up in Gas Lane, where his father was a labourer and his mother a charwoman.  Aged 16 in 1861 he was an apprentice pipe maker, living on Newmarket Road. It is believed he married Athelinda Smith around 1870 in Cambridge.  They had at least five children: Robert (1871-1889), Florence Isabella (1874-1894), Minnie Sabina Haigh (nee Loker) (1880-1958), Edith Sarah Halls (nee Loker) (1884-1928) and Frances Jane Townsend (nee Loker) (1885-1913).

They lived at 6 Gloucester Place, then 10 Gloucester Place. Arthur worked as a labourer.  He died in Cambridge aged 53 years old.

Athelina Loker (nee Smith) (1850 – 21 August 1920)

Athelina was the daughter of Samuel and Ellen Smith.  She was born in early 1850 in Wortham, Suffolk and was baptised on 24th February 1850.  Her father worked as a machine maker.  By 1861 the family were living in Sun Street, Cambridge and her father was a wine worker and master publican.  Athelina lived at Gloucester Place with Arthur.

After Arthur died she lived at 82 East Road and in 1901 was running the Wheelwrights Arms pub there. In 1901 she was living with her three daughters and an impressive 9 lodgers. She died aged 70 in August 1920 whilst still living at 82 East Road,  leaving effects valued at £375.  Three of her five known children had pre-deceased her.

Robert Loker (1871 – 10 January 1889)

Little is known of Robert. He was the eldest child of Arthur and Athelina Loker.  He appears on the 1871 and 1881 census living at 6 then 10 Gloucester Place with his parents and siblings.  He died at 17, in January 1889.

Florence Isabella Loker (1874 – 6 April 1894)

Florence Isabella was the eldest daughter and second child of Arthur and Athelina Loker.  She appears on the 1881 census living at 10 Gloucester  Place.  She died in 1894 aged 20.
