Thomas Edward Arnold (1905 – 26 October 1914)
Thomas was known as Tommy and attended Romsey School. He was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 30 October, after a service at the Baptist Chapel. The Arnold family were part of the Temperance movement and Tommy was a member of the Cadets of the Sons of Temperance. About cadets attended the funeral and marched to the cemetery ‘where they stood at each side of the chapel while the cortege passed through’.
Emma Arnold ( 15 August 1876 – 30 April 1954)
Emma was the daughter of Robert and Rachel Howell. She was born in East Barsham in Norfolk, and baptised there on 17th September. Her father worked as an agricultural labourer, and she grew up in Great Walsingham. She married Edward Arnold in Cambridge in 1903. They had at least three children together Thomas Edward, Annie Elizabeth [1908-1993] and Cyril John [1918-1999].
Edward worked on the railway and they lived at 15 Madras Road [1911], Station House in Newmarket [1939] and then 11 Fairfax Road. Emma died at Fairfax Road aged 77 years old.
Edward John Arnold (30 September 1874 – 20 March 1955)
Edward was born in Great Shelford, and appears to have been known by the name of John, rather than Edward. He was the son of Thomas and Ann Arnold. Aged 17 in 1891 John was working as an agricultural worker like his father. Aged 27 years old he was a railway signalman and living in Barton Mills where he was lodging with a family. He married at the age of 29 years old to Emma Howell. He worked as a railway goods guard [1911] and then as a railway porter [1939]. He was widowed aged 79 years old, and died the following year. He left an estate valued at £2,348 and 14s.
