Arthur Barzillai Cobb (31 May 1828 – 12 March 1906)

Arthur was born in Roydon, a village one mile west of Diss, and baptised there on 29 June 1828.  He was the eldest son of miller Charles (1798-1846) and Harriet (née Hart) (1801-1874). After his father died he lived with his mother on Cock Street, Diss and both worked as bakers. Arthur married Charlotte Rash in 1852 and they had three sons: Willie Arthur (1859-1949), Harry Philip (1861-1939) and Ernest Albert (1863-1925). In 1861 they were living in Diss, where Arthur was working as a cabinet maker and Charlotte as a dressmaker.  By 1871 he was working as a baker once more, and still living in Diss. He later took over the Prince of Wales, St. Nicholas Place where he ran a refreshment room and dining room (1881 to at least 1896).

By 1901 Arthur and Charlotte had moved to live at 12 Rose Crescent where he was noted as being a caretaker.  Their youngest son Ernest had moved to Cambridge in c.1885 to work for jeweller Messrs. Reed  and it thought that they might have moved to Cambridge to be closer to him. Arthur died on 12 March at 12 Rose Crescent and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery three days later.

Charlotte Cobb (née Rash)  (c.1828 – 22 October 1913)

Charlotte was the daughter of porter Samuel Rash and his wife Mary. She grew up in Diss and worked as a dress maker before her marriage to Arthur Cobb.

After his death she lived with youngest son Ernest at 15 Market Place in a two roomed flat. She died aged 85 years old and her funeral was held on 25 October.
