Robert Shedd (1819 – 1 January 1900)

Robert was born in Cherry Hinton, and baptised there on 3rd October 1819.  He was the son of agricultural worker William Shedd and his wife Ann. Robert also worked as an agricultural worker like his father.  He married Susan Hurry in Cherry Hinton on 7th August 1842.

Robert and Susan had at least six children: Mary Anne (1843-1929), Frederick (1846-), Emma (1847-1928), Sarah (1850-1937), Martha (1851-1891) and James (1853-1923).  The family lived at High Street, Cherry Hinton (1851) and then Fishers Lane (1861/1871).  They then moved to 4 Belgrave Road and Robert started working as a gardener (1881/1891).

Robert died at 4 Belgrave Road in 1900 aged 80 years old.

Susan Shedd(née Hurry)  (c.1820 – 26 February 1909)

Susan was the daughter of John and Mary Hurry. She was also born in Cherry Hinton, and baptised there on 6th February 1820.  In the census of 1841 she was a patient at Addenbrookes Hospital.  She was working as a servant at this time.  She married Robert Shedd when she was 22 years old.

In 1901 she was living with her widowed daughter Emma at 4 Belgrave Road.  She died at Belgrave Road aged 89 years old.

Emma Audsley (née Shedd) (1847 – 15 November 1928)

Emma was the third of Robert and Susan’s children.  She was born in Cherry Hinton and baptised there on 28th October 1855.  In 1861 she was 15 years old, and working as a domestic servant to tailor Edward Smith and his family at 24 East Road.  In 1891 she was a parlour maid to Peter Latham, a doctor who lived on Trumpington Street.

She married James Edward Audsley at St Barnabas Church on 30th July 1894.  She was 47 years old when she married. James was originally from Dewsbury and the couple went to live in Southport.  James died at 123 Cambridge Road in Southport in April 1900 aged 53 years old.

Emma returned to live in Cambridge, and was living with her mother Susan at Belgrave Road in 1901. In 1911 she was back living at 123 Cambridge Road in Southport, which appears to have been a lodging house.  She died in Cambridge in 1928 at Hermon Cottage, 12 Belgrave Road.  She was 81 years old.
