William Stephen Aves (1892- 1 March 1931)

William was the son of Harry (1865-1909) and Julia (1867-1910) Aves and was born in Sawston, a village seven miles south of Cambridge. His father was a blacksmith and by 1901 the family had moved to live at 170 Newmarket Road. His parents had both died by the time he was 18 years old and in 1911 he was living with his four sisters (aged 9 to 21 years old) at 15 Albert Street. William worked as a blacksmith in an iron foundry and married Hilda Tyler (1897-1989) in 1922. The couple had one daughter: Doria Lavinia Julia (1923-1994) and lived at 89 Ainsworth Street. He died at home ‘after a short illness’ aged 39 years old and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 5 March.
